For spaces \(X,Y\) let \(Ph(X,Y)\) be the set of phantom maps from \(X\) to \(Y\) and let \(SNT(X)\) be the set of all homotopy types having the same \(n\)- type of \(X\) for all \(n\). Building the cofibre resp. homotopy fibre of a map yields (pointed) maps \(C : Ph(X,Y)\rightarrow SNT(Y\vee\Sigma X)\) and \(F : Ph(X,Y)\rightarrow SNT(X\times\Omega Y)\). In a paper of \textit{C. A. McGibbon} and \textit{J. M. Møller} [Topology 31, No. 1, 177-201 (1992; reviewed below, see Zbl 0764.55012)] it is shown that for nilpotent \(Z\) of finite type, the set \(SNT(Z)\) is either trivial or uncountable. In the present paper it is proved that for \(X=K({\mathbf Z},n)\) the image of the map \(F\) and for \(Y={\mathbf S}^ n\) the image of \(C\) is uncountable whenever there are nontrivial phantom maps. The technique of the paper allows the construction of spaces \(Z\) having the same \(n\)-type as \(Z\) (for all \(n\)) and the same genus as \(Z\) but not homotopy equivalent to \(Z\).
