Suppose \(f\) and \(g\) are two non-constant meromorphic functions sharing zero, one, and infinity counting multiplicity. If \(\limsup\{N_0(r)/T(r, f)\), \(r\to\infty\), \(r\not\in E\}> 1/2\), where \(N_0(r)\) denotes the counting function of the zeros of \(f-g\) not containing the zeros of \(f\), \(f-1\) and \(1/f'\) and \(E\) is an exceptional set, then \(f\) is a linear fractional transformation of \(g\) and assumes one of the following forms: (i) \(f\equiv g\), (ii) \(f+g\equiv 1\); (iii) \((f- 1)(g-1)\equiv 1\); and (iv) \(fg\equiv 1\). The paper contains three other theorems of a similar character. The author attributes the main idea of his proofs to \textit{Ping Li} and \textit{C.-C. Yang} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 220, No. 1, 132-145 (1998; Zbl 0909.30021)], who showed for \(\varepsilon>0\), \(T(r,g)\leq (2+ \varepsilon)T(r,f)+ S(r,f)\).
