The authors propose the use of hierarchical Lyapunov functions to study stability criteria for differential equations. By taking into account the dynamical properties of local subsystems, hierarchical Lyapunov functions are constructed which are then applied to discuss the complicated given system. Examples are given to demonstrate the procedure.
