The authors study the system (1) \( \dot z = J H' (t,z)\), where \(H' (t,z)\) denotes the gradient of \(H\) with respect to the variable \(z\), \(J = \begin{pmatrix} 0 & - I_N\\ I_N & 0\end{pmatrix}\), and \(I_N\) denotes the identity matrix in \({\mathbb{R}}^N\). The authors establish the existence of non-trivial periodic solutions of the system (1), under some appropriate assumptions. Let us remark that the asymptotic matrix of (1) may be degenerate and time-dependent. Using Galerkin approximate procedure, Maslov-type index (more precisely a generalization of Maslov index due to Conley, Zehnder and Long) does this.
