From author's introduction: ``I have recently been involved with \textit{Xiaoyu Hu} and \textit{Ed Perkins} in working out the multifractal structure of two distinct random Borel measures. In both cases the support \(S\) of the measure \(\mu \) had a significant subset with a geometrical property which I call \(\gamma \)-thin \((\gamma >1)\). Though we can (almost) complete the multifractal analysis; the usual formalism, introduced in [Phys. Rev. A 33, 1141-1151 (1986)] by \textit{T. C. Halsey, M. H. Jensen, L. P. Kadanoff, I. Procaccia}, and \textit{B. J. Shraiman}, breaks down completely. My purpose is to pose specific questions relating the existence of \(\gamma \)-thin subsets of \(S\) to the invalidity of the multifractal formalism''.
