      The authors consider exponential sums of the type \[ S_k (x,\alpha) = \sum_{n\leq x} \mu (n)e^{2 \pi in^k \alpha}. \] For any \(k\geq 2\) and \(\varepsilon > 0\) they obtain under the generalized Riemann hypothesis that \[ \max_{\alpha \in[0,1]} \bigl|S_k(x, \alpha) \bigr |\ll_\varepsilon x^{\varphi_k + \varepsilon}, \quad \text{where} \quad \varphi_k = 1- {1\over 2^{2k-1}}. \] Following \textit{H. Davenport} [Q. J. Math., Oxf. Ser. 8, 313-320 (1937; Zbl 0017.39101)] one can show unconditionally that \[ \max_{\alpha\in[0,1]} \bigl|S_k (x, \alpha) \bigr|\ll_A x(\log x)^{-A} \] for any \(A>0\).
