Let \(D_{\alpha}P(z)\) denote the polar differentiation of the polynomial P(z) of degree n with respect to the point \(\alpha\), i.e. \(D_{\alpha}P(z)=nP(z)+(\alpha -z)P'(z).\) In this paper several inequalities of Bernstein type for complex polynomials are generalized to the case of the polar differentiation. For instance: If P(z) is a polynomial of degree n such that max\(\{\) \(| P(z)|:\) \(| z| =1\}=1\) and P(z) has no zeros in the disk \(| z| <1\), then for every real or complex number \(\alpha\), with \(| \alpha | \geq 1\), we have \(| D_{\alpha}P(z)| \leq (n/2)(| \alpha z^{n- 1}| +1),\) for \(| z| \geq 1\). The result is best possible and equality holds for the polynomial \(P(z)=az^ n+b\), where \(| a| =| b| =1/2\) and \(\alpha\geq 1\). Choosing \(\alpha\) suitably, one gets the following result: If \(P(z)=\sum^{n}_{j=0}a_ jz^ j\) is a polynomial of degree n which does not vanish in the disk \(| z| <1\), then \(n| a_ n| +| a_{n-1}| \leq (n/2)\max_{| z| =1}| P(z)|.\)
