    This article deals with some fixed point principles in locally convex spaces. In the case of a metric space \((X,d)\), the basic idea of the author is connected with the following trivial remark: \(f:X\to X\) has a fixed point if and only if the following two conditions are satisfied: (1) \(\inf \{d(x,f(x)):x\in X\}=0\) and (2) the functional \(d(x,f(x))\) has a minimum \(p\). The first fixed point principle is the following: If a continuous map: \(f:X\to X\) of a topological space \(X\) in itself satisfies the the inequality \(F(f(x),f(y))<F(x,y)\) \((x,y\in X,\;x\neq y)\) where \(F\) is a real lower semicontinuous function defined on \(X\times X\) and the implication \[ V=f(V)\cup \{x_0\}\Rightarrow V \;\text{is relatively compact} \] with a fixed \(x_0\in X\) holds for every countable subset \(V\) of \(X\), then \(f\) has a unique fixed point. The other results deal with mappings defined on closed and bounded sets in Hausdorff locally convex spaces. All these results are illustrated by suitable examples.
