The generalized eigenvalue problem for interval matrices is analyzed. By the application of the stationary condition for Rayleigh quotients and using the minimax theorem, the eigenvalue problem can be transformed into two different eigenvalue problems when the original stiffness and mass matrices have uncertain parameters (elements). Upper and lower bounds are derived for the eigenvalues (circular frequencies of free vibration). A numerical example illustrates the effectiveness of the presented algorithm. The results of the paper can be immediately used in sensitivity and error analyses.
