The paper is a short treatise assigned to the study of the integral equations of the form \(Sf= \mu f(x)+ \int_{\omega_1}^{\omega_2} k(x-t) f(t) dt= \varphi (x)\), where \(\mu\) is a number, \(k(x)\in L(\omega_1- \omega_2, \omega_2- \omega_1)\), \(-\infty\leq \omega_1< \omega_2\leq \infty\), called equations with difference kernel in the literature. It is conceived as a monograph which presents the principal results in the study of the problem obtained in the last about 50 years, with contributions of the author himself, who signed, single or in collaboration, 29 papers quoted in the bibliography, on the entire list of 100 numbers. He belongs to the Russian school of mathematics, with many papers published in Russian (more than 50\% from the bibliographical list). The presented material is disposed in eight chapters, some of them containing theoretical considerations and constructions of work methods, other chapters containing applications of theoretical results to problems put by different concrete questions and, finally, other ones contain comments and pertinent remarks to the obtained results. The class of applications is very large; it contains problems from hydrodynamics, contact theory in elasticity, radiation transfer, Prandtl's equation, the Kac problem (from probability theory), optimal prediction, diffraction on a strip, theory of antenna synthesis. The monograph is very useful for all interested in the domain of fundamental or applied mathematics and its lecture offers a real tool for possible thoroughgoing considerations or applications. It is written by a specialist who knows the problem in its depth and in its lateral branches or applications.
