Let \(U(X)\) denote the lattice of uniformly continuous real-valued functions defined on a topological space \(X\). Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be complete metric spaces. Then for any lattice isomorphism \(T:U(Y)\to U(X)\) there is a uniform homeomorphism \(\tau:X\to Y\) such that \((Tf)(x)=t(x, f(\tau(x)))\), where \(t:X\times\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}\) is given by \(t(x,c)=(Tc)(x)\). Here \(c\) is first treated as a real number and then as a constant function on \(Y\). This provides a correct proof for a statement made by \textit{T. Shirota} [Osaka Math. J. 4, 121--132 (1952; Zbl 0048.08902)].
