The paper is devoted to the development and historical aspects of dynamical systems, which was made by one of the greatest mathematician of this century at the ICM 98 in Berlin. The author restricts himself to Hamiltonian systems, in particular to the stability problem for Hamiltonian systems, which according to the opinion of the author, still holds many fascinating problems. In this paper among many other interesting questions, the author touches the following questions: (1) Some applications of Kolmogorov's theorem on invariant tori (1954); (2) Xia's solution of the Painlevé problem; (3) Completely integrable systems; (4) The role of minimizers in the Aubry-Mather theory.
