Submanifolds of codimension two in the equiaffine space \( \mathbb{R}^{n+2} \) bear an inner (pseudo-) Riemannian geometry invariantly defined if some regularity conditions are fulfilled (non-degeneracy). The author studies the variation of the corresponding volume functional, expressing the Euler equations in terms of the theory of \textit{K. Nomizu} and \textit{T. Sasaki} [Nagoya Math. J. 132, 63-90 (1993; Zbl 0791.53011)]. If the variation is done without radial component then the condition is that the trace of an associated second fundamental form must vanish (minimality). As a particular example the Clifford torus in standard position is considered in some detail together with its minimal relatives which have the same induced connection and inner geometry w.r.t. the canonical parametrization. Finally the author discusses duality which is a natural feature of this geometry; see the reviewer's paper [Result. Math. 20, 777-788 (1991; Zbl 0753.53009)] or Nomizu/Sasaki, loc. cit.
