Nonlinear dynamics. Mathematical models for rigid bodies with a liquid (Q5919721)

This monograph is devoted to the study of motion of rigid bodies with cavities filled with a liquid. The methods used are based on Bateman-Luke variational formalism, together with perturbation method. Mathematically, the problem is reduced to a finite system of nonlinear differential equations. Algorithms for solving this system of equations is also proposed. Numerical values of hydrodynamic coefficients are determined for some shapes of the rigid body and cavities (shapes of the tank). Also for prescribed harmonic excitation of upright cylindrical or conical tanks, the steady state sloshing regimes are classified and the results are compared with experimental observations. The book may be useful for researchers in applied mathematics and mechanics as well as for graduate students in those fields.
