    For the groups \(SL_2(\mathbb C)\) and \(SL_3(\mathbb Z)\), \(1<p<2\) and \(\frac 2p=1+\frac 1q\), the estimate \[ \| f*f\| _q^\frac12\leq C\| f\| _p^{1-\tau}\left(\| f\| _p^\prime\right)^\tau \] with some constant \(0<\tau<1\) depending on \(p\) is shown for functions \(f\) in \(\ell^p(SL_2(\mathbb C))\) resp. \(\ell^p(SL_3(\mathbb Z))\). The norm \(\| \cdot\| ^\prime\) is defined as \[ \text{max}\left(\sum_{y\in G_1}| f(xy)| ^p\right)^\frac1p \] with the maximum being taken over all group elements \(x\) and all abelian subgroups \(G_1\) of \(SL_2(\mathbb C)\) resp. all nilpotent subgroups \(G_1\) of \(SL_3(\mathbb Z)\).
