Summary: Combining results of \textit{T. K. Lam} [B and D analogues of stable Schubert polynomials and related insertion algorithm. Ann Arbor, MI: MIT (PhD Thesis) (1995)] and \textit{J. R. Stembridge} [Adv. Math. 74, No. 1, 87--134 (1989; Zbl 0677.20012)], the type \(C\) Stanley symmetric function \(F_w^C(\mathbf{x})\), indexed by an element \(w\) in the type \(C\) Coxeter group, has a nonnegative integer expansion in terms of Schur functions. We provide a crystal theoretic explanation of this fact and give an explicit combinatorial description of the coefficients in the Schur expansion in terms of highest weight crystal elements.
