Let \(P_n(z)=\sum^n_{\nu=0} a_\nu z^\nu\) be a polynomial of degree \(n\), \(P_n'(z)\) its derivative and \(\| P_n\|:= \max_{|z|\leq 1}|P_n(z)|\). Bernstein proved the inequality \(\| P_n'\|\leq n\| P_n\|\). Dewan, Govil and Vetterlein have given estimations in the other direction for polynomials satisfying certain conditions, for example \(P_n(z)= z^nP_n({1\over z})\). (See the introduction of the paper.) Recently Govil extended his research to entire functions of exponential type \(\tau\) with obey the functional equation \[ f(z)= e^{i\tau\cdot z}f(- z).\tag{\(*\)} \] For this functions he proved \(\sup_{x\in\mathbb{R}}|f'(x)|\geq {\tau\over 2}\sup_{x\in\mathbb{R}} |f(x)|\) and he showed that the estimate is sharp. In this paper the set \({\mathcal F}_\tau\) of non-constant entire functions of exponential type \(\tau\) which are bounded on the real axis and which satisfy \((*)\) are considered. It is proved that for any real \(\varepsilon\), \(0<\varepsilon< \tau\) there is an \(f_\varepsilon\in{\mathcal F}_\tau\) such that \(\sup_{x\in\mathbb{R}}|f'(x)|\geq (\tau- \varepsilon)\sup_{x\in\mathbb{R}}|f(x)|\). Beside this result further estimates are given for functions in \({\mathcal F}_\tau\) which are ``uniformely almost periodic'' on the real axis, with Fourier series \(f(x)\sim\sum^\infty_{n=1} A_n e^{i\Lambda_n x}\), where the coefficients \(A_1,A_2,\dots\) lie in a sector of opening \(\gamma\in [0,\pi)\) with vertex at the origin. Then it is shown using deep results of H. Bohr that \[ \sup_{x\in\mathbb{R}} |f'(x)|\leq {\tau\over 2\cos({\gamma\over 2})}|f(0)|. \] The function \(f(z)= e^{i\tau z}+ 2e^{i\gamma} e^{i\tau z/2}+1\) shows that the inequality is sharp.
