Let \(k\) be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. It has been shown by \textit{A. Masuoka} [in Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 124, No. 3, 735-737 (1996; Zbl 0848.16033)] that every semisimple Hopf algebra of dimension \(p^n\) over \(k\), where \(p\) is a prime number, contains a non-trivial central group-like element. This implies that these Hopf algebras are semisolvable in the sense of the definition given by \textit{S. Montgomery} and \textit{S. J. Witherspoon} [in J. Pure Appl. Algebra 129, No. 3, 315-326 (1998; Zbl 0932.16039)]. In this paper the author gives the complete classification of non-trivial semisimple Hopf algebras of dimension \(16\) over \(k\). One of the main techniques used to this end is the study of Hopf algebra extensions. All possible structures of Grothendieck rings for non-commutative semisimple Hopf algebras of dimension \(16\) are also given.
