A based map \(f:X\to B\) is cocyclic if there is \(\theta: X\to X \vee B\) so that \(j\theta\) is homotopic to \((1\times f)\cdot\Delta\), where \(\Delta\) is the diagonal and \(j\) the inclusion of the wedge. The dual Gottlieb set is the set of homotopy classes of cocyclic maps. The concept was introduced by \textit{K. Varadarajan} [J. Indian Math. Soc., n. Ser. 33, 141-164 (1969; Zbl 0199.26501)]. \textit{H. B. Haslam} [\(G\)-spaces and \(H\)-spaces, Dissertation Univ., Calif., Irvine 1969] studied the case where \(B\) is an Eilenberg-MacLane space. The present author gives conditions when the dual Gottlieb group is a subgroup of \([X,B]\) and also characterizes cocyclic maps. The concepts are generalized, and many examples are given. The details are too technical to be described here.
