The authors look for special solutions of the equations of motion for a viscous, heat-conducting vortex at finite Mach number. They approximate the exact equations under the assumption that the core is slender, and this boundary-layer-like `quasi-cylindrical' approximation leads to a set of parabolic partial differential equations for the core structure. The authors examine the equations that determine possible self-similar solutions, and solve the resulting ordinary differential equations numerically. No evidence for the existence of an attractor is shown.
