As mentioned in the Preface, the aim of this book ''is to make a comprehensive review of some topics in Survey Sampling which have not been covered in detail in books so far and to indicate new research areas wherever possible''. Indeed this is a very useful review to the researcher but marred by several typos, sometimes very annoying. The basic concepts are dealt with in the first 26 pages of chapter 1, followed by methods of inference under the frequentist theory approach (15 pp.). Bayesian and empirical Bayes prediction of a finite population total and their modifications are discussed in chapter 3 (50 pp.) and 4 (37 pp.), respectively. Estimation of finite population variance, regression coefficients (34 pp.) and estimation of population distribution functions (37 pp.) are the subjects of the next two chapters. In Chapter 7, the problem of prediction in finite populations under measurement error models is discussed (27 pp.). Three special topics (30 pp.), namely calibration estimators, post stratified sampling and conditional inference in survey sampling are touched upon in the last chapter. A long list of references of over 300 articles and books is available along with an author index and a subject index. At the end of each chapter exercises are provided which are mostly based on research papers. A sample list of corrections from the 1 st chapter would, among others, include the following: detail for details, possible for poosible, occurrence for occurance, load for laod, latter for later, etc.
