Let \(G\) be a finite group, and let \(k\) be a field of characteristic~\(p\). A \(kG\)-module is said to be generic if it is indecomposable, of infinite length over \(kG\), but of finite length as a module over its endomorphism ring. Let \(V_G\) denote the maximal ideal spectrum of the cohomology ring \(H^*(G,k)\). Let \(U\) be the collection of closed homogeneous irreducible subvarieties of \(V_G\) that are not irreducible components, and let \(F_U\) be the corresponding Rickard idempotent module. It is shown that \(F_U\) is a finite sum of generic modules corresponding to the irreducible components of \(V_G\). An explicit construction of \(F_U\) is given.
