The author studies periodic solutions with internal layers (step-like contrast structures) in nonlinear singularly perturbed parabolic problems. The asymptotic method of differential inequalities is used. In this method, one constructs upper and lower solutions on the basis of a formal asymptotics of a contrast structure. Modifying the asymptotics in an appropriate way, one can construct upper and lower solutions and hence prove the existence of a contrast structure in the original problem. This method permits one to estimate the accuracy of the asymptotic and to study the stability of the contrast structure.
