The authors discuss the existence of second-order weak derivatives for minimizers \(u:\mathbb{R}^n\supset \Omega\to \mathbb{R}^n\) of anisotropic variational integrals, a model case under consideration, for example, is given by \[ I(u)= \int_\Omega (|Du|^2+|D_nu|^q) dx \] for some exponent \(q> 2\). Assuming that \(u\) is a bounded function they prove existence of \(D^2u\) provided that \(q\leq {2(n- 1)\over n-3}\), \(n\geq 4\). This result is extended to more general classes of anisotropic integrals.
