Linear stability of shock profiles for systems of conservation laws with semi-linear relaxation (Q5927624)

The author considers the semilinear relaxation approximation to a system of hyperbolic conservation laws. By means of the Evans function, she studies the linear stability of shock profiles in the Lax, undercompressive, and overcompressive case. Necessary conditions for stability are derived which are similar to conditions found by Zumbrun, Howard, and Serre in similar situations. The paper is written in a clear style such that the reader can follow the arguments and detailed calculations.
