Let \(L\) be an even lattice with signature \((2,l)\) with \(l \geq 3\) such that \(L \otimes_{\mathbb Z} \mathbb Q\) contains two orthogonal hyperbolic planes, and let \(\Gamma\) be a subgroup of finite index of the orthogonal group of \(L\). Let \(\mathcal H_l\) be the associated Hermitian symmetric domain, and let \(X_\Gamma\) be the Baily-Borel compactification of \(\mathcal H_l / \Gamma\). Given a generic point \(s\) of one of the components of the boundary curve of \(X_\Gamma\), the local divisor class group of \(X_\Gamma\) in \(s\) is roughly the group of analytic line bundles \(\text{Pic} (U_{\text{reg}})\) on the regular locus of a small open neighborhood \(U\) of \(s\). In this paper the authors compute the local Picard group \(\displaystyle \text{Pic} (X_\Gamma, s) = \lim_{\rightarrow} \text{Pic} (U_{\text{reg}})\) by determining the local analytic cohomology \(\displaystyle \lim_{\rightarrow} H^1 (U_{\text{reg}}, \mathcal O_{X_\Gamma})\). They also investigate obstructions for Heegner divisors to be divisors of meromorphic functions by using a local analogue of the automorphic products discovered by \textit{R. E. Borcherds} [Invent. Math. 132, 491-562 (1998; Zbl 0919.11036)]\ and discuss a relation between such obstructions and the coefficients of certain vector-valued theta series.
