Sur la stabilité des couches limites de viscosité. (The stability of viscous boundary layers) (Q5928022)

Considering the natural hypotheses, it is shown that the unstable modes are due uniquely to the existence of some eigenvalues which are the zeros of an holomorphic function of Evans type. The dependence of the stability for profiles families depending on a parameter, is also rigurously given. Some examples of the boundary layer profiles with the number of the unstable eigenvalues odd or even, are considered. Such an example of unstable profile due to O. Gues, G. Metivier, J. Rauch is also presented. But this example is connected with a quasilinear system which is not conservative. The example given by the author is connected with isentropic gas dynamics being related to conservation laws. Finally, a complete analysis with a geometric explicit criterion for instability of profiles when \(n=2\) is shown.
