Let \(f(x,y)=[(x-x_0)^2 +(y-y_0)^2]^{-s}\), \(s\in\mathbb{R}_+\) and \(P_n\) is a polynomial of total degree \(n\). Set \(E_n(f)= \inf(f)[\|f-P_n \|]\), where \(\|\cdot \|\) refers to the sup-norm on the unit ball of \(\mathbb{R}^2\). Then there is proved: Theorem: Assume that \(r^2=x^2_0 +y_0^2>1\). Then we have \(\varlimsup_{n\to \infty}E_n (f)^{1/n}\leq r^{-1}\). If moreover, \(r\geq 3\), \(0<s<1\), then \(\varlimsup_{n\to \infty}E_n (f)^{1/n}=r^{-1}\).
