A new absorbing layer boundary condition for the wave equation (Q5928906)

A new absorbing boundary condition (ABC) is applied to calculations of the wave equation for electromagnetic waves in an absorbing medium. The basic procedure is a hybrid between the one-way Sommerfeld algorithm and the Berenger absorbing layer ABC algorithm. The new algorithm is initially developed for a one-dimensional case and is extended to higer dimensions at the second part of the paper. The obtained numerical results for the coefficient of reflection are discussed and compared with those obtained by other algorithms.
