This paper is an interesting contribution to the study of the Navier--Stokes equations in thin three-dimensional domains. The authors consider here two types of boundary conditions: (a) purely periodic conditions or (b) periodic conditions in the thin direction and Dirichlet conditions at the other parts of the boundary. Using a new uniqueness criterion for Leray's weak solution (the proof is based on the imbedding of certain Sobolev-Slobodeckii spaces into the anisotrop \(L^p\) spaces), the authors show existence of the unique Leray's weak solution under certain smallness conditions on the data of the problem which are much less restrictive than in the previous papers on this subject. Under some additional assumptions on the right-hand side, improved results are obtained for the purely periodic boundary conditions; here the study is performed in the \(W^{1,p}\) spaces.
