The Davis hyperbolic 4-manifold [\textit{M. W. Davis}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 93, 325-328 (1985; Zbl 0533.51015)] is the simplest and most well-known example of a closed orientable hyperbolic 4-manifold; it was constructed geometrically by gluing together the opposite sides of a regular 120-cell in hyperbolic 4-space, and it was shown to be the orbit space of a normal subgroup \(K\) of index 14400 of the \((5,3,3,5)\) Coxeter simplex reflection group \(\Gamma\) acting on hyperbolic 4-space (see the quoted paper). In the paper under review, the authors algebraically characterize the Davis manifold as the orbit space of the unique torsion-free normal subgroup of index 14400 of \(\Gamma\). Moreover, they determine the homology, the injectivity radius and the group of isometries of the Davis manifold, and show that this manifold has a spin structure.
