In this paper, the author considers the Fano variety \(X\) of dimension \(n\) with second Betti number greater than 1 and a rank \(r\) ample vector bundle \(E\) on \(X\) such that \(\det(E)\) equals the anti-canonical divisor of \(X\). \textit{J. A. Wisniewski} [Manuscr. Math. 68, 135-141 (1990; Zbl 0715.14033); 70, 145-152 (1991; Zbl 0726.14028)] proved, among other things, that for such pair \((X,E)\) the rank \(r\) of \(E\) is less than or equal to \((n+2)/2\). The author of the article under review, determines all those pairs with \(r = (n+2)/2\) or \(r = (n+1)/2\). In the first case of \(r\), the pair is unique with \(X\) equal to the product of two copies of the \((r-1)\)-dimensional projective space and \(E\) equal to the direct sum of \(r\) copies of the line bundle \({\mathcal O}(1,1)\). In the second case of \(r\) [assuming \(n\) is at least 4; the case of \(n=3\) was treated by \textit{Th. Peternell, M. Szurek} and \textit{J. A. Wisniewski}, Math. Ann. 294, 151-165 (1992; Zbl 0786.14027)] there are mainly 4 possibilities specified in the paper.
