Let \(f\) be holomorphic on a compact set \(E\) in the extended complex plane \(\mathbb{C}\). For any nonnegative integer \(n\) let \(\rho_n\) denote the distance of \(f\) from the class \({\mathcal R}_n\) of all rational functions of order at most \(n\), measured with respect to the uniform norm on \(E\). In a previous paper the author [Mat. Sb. 184, No. 2, 3-32 (1993); translation in Russ. Acad. Sci. Sb. Math. 78, No. 1, 139-164 (1994; Zbl 0805.30026)] by using some methods in the theory of Hankel operators [see \textit{V. A. Prokhorov} and \textit{E. B. Saff}, Constr. Approx. 15, No 2, 155-173 (1999; Zbl 0933.30025)] derived several results related to the rate of convergence of rational approximation of certain analytic functions, proving in particular that: ``If (*) \(\limsup_{n\to\infty} \rho_n^{1/n}= {1\over\rho}\), then, (**) \(\liminf_{n \to\infty} \rho_n^{1/n}=0\)''. In the present work he obtains other results generalizing (*) and (**), also describing the relationship between estimates of \(\liminf_{n \to\infty} \rho_n^{1/n}\) and \(\limsup_{n \to\infty} \rho_n^{1/n}\).
