The authors study an initial-boundary value problem of Ginzburg-Landau system of parabolic type in inhomogeneous superconductors. It is proved that the vortices are attracted by impurities so that they are pinned by inhomogeneities in the superconducting materials. The result was recently predicted by Chapman and Richardson using a method of formal matched asymptotics.
