In \(\text{ PG}(n,q)\), a \(k\)-set of type \((a,b)\), \(a < b\), with respect to hyperovals is a set of \(k\) points such that every hyperplane meets it in either \(a\) or \(b\) points. To every such set there is associated a strongly regular graph [\textit{R. Calderbank} and \textit{W. M. Kantor}, Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 18, 97-122 (1986; Zbl 0582.94019)]. Examples of such point sets are the hyperovals, maximal arcs, unitals and Baer subplanes in \(\text{ PG}(2,q)\). The authors construct \(k\)-sets of type \((a,b)\) using powers of Singer cycles. Further examples are constructed by using various disjoint sets. Some of the sets of type \((a,b)\) can also be obtained from the work of \textit{D. A. Foulser} and \textit{M. J. Kallaher} [Geom. Ded. 7, 111-130 (1978; Zbl 0406.51009)] which classifies subgroups of \(\Gamma L(1,p^R)\) that have two orbits on \(\text{GF}(p^R)^*\).
