Let \(G\) be a compact Lie group, and let \(V\) be the orthogonal representation of \(G\). It is said that \(V\) has the Borsuk-Ulam property if the existence of an equivariant map \(f:S(W)\rightarrow S(V)\) between representation spheres implies \(\dim W\leq\dim V\). It is generally known that if the Euler class \(e(V)\in H^*(BG;R)\) is nontrivial then \(V\) has the Borsuk-Ulam property. By using the algebraic structure of the orthogonal representations of a cyclic group, this paper shows that for cyclic groups whose order has the form \(2k+1\) or \(2(2k+1)\) for an integer \(k\), the Borsuk-Ulam property also implies the nontriviality of the Euler class. The authors prove first that if \(V\) is an orthogonal representation of the cyclic group \(C_k\) for \(k\neq 2\) then \(V\) does not have the Borsuk-Ulam property. For the case of a cyclic group \(G\) of order \(2^d(2k+1)\) it is proven in this paper that any representation \(V\) of \(G\) with \(e(V)=0\) does not have the Borsuk-Ulam property.
