      In 1986 this referee proposed to determine all continuous decreasing involutions \(f:(0, \infty) \to (0, \infty) \) satisfying the functional equation NEWLINE\[NEWLINE f(x+y) + f( f(x) + f(y)) = f [ f(x+f(y)) + f(f(x) + y)]. \tag{1}NEWLINE\]NEWLINE While the general answer is still open, some contributions have been made by the authors of this paper in the present paper as well as in previous works. For example in Theorem 3.2 it is shown that any \(f\) strictly decreasing geometrically Jensen convex (i.e. \(\log \circ f \circ \exp\) is convex on \(R\)) satisfying (1) has the form NEWLINE\[NEWLINE f(x) = c/x \quad \text{ for some } c > 0. NEWLINE\]NEWLINE The authors consider also the related equation NEWLINE\[NEWLINE z f(x+y) + f \left( (f(x) + f(y) \right) = f \left[ f(x+zf(y)) + f( zf(x) + y) \right] NEWLINE\]NEWLINE and show that any non-increasing solution has the form \( f(x) = c/x \), for some \( c> 0 \).
