In this paper the author reviews connections between the supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories and the M-theory. He considers compactifications yielding the Seiberg-Witten effective theories. The aim of the work is to reveal relations between low-energy effective SUSY gauge theories and integrable systems, providing some background material. It is done in four sections: SUSY Yang-Mills theories, Integrable systems, The Seiberg-Witten theory from strings, Integrable equations in topological strings and the Seiberg-Witten theory.
