The first-order \(n\times n\)-system \[ \frac 1iB\frac{dy}{dx}+Q(x)y=\lambda y \] with the boundary conditions \[ Cy(0)+Dy(1)=0,\quad \text{Ker}(CC^*+DD^*)=\{0\}, \] is considered and the completeness and minimality of the system of root functions in \((L^p[0,1])^n\otimes \mathbb C^n\) are investigated. Here, \(B\) is a constant nonsingular matrix, \(Q\) is an \(n\times n\)-matrix function with integrable components, and \(C\), \(D\) are \(n\times n\)-matrices. It is stated that in case \(B=B^*\), the system of root functions is complete and minimal if \(T_1\) and \(T_2\) are nonsingular, with \(T_1=P_+C+P_-D\), \(T_2=P_-C+P_+D\), and \(P_\pm\) are the projections corresponding to the positive and negative spectra of \(B\). In case \(B\neq B^*\), if a set of similarly constructed matrices is nonsingular, then the root functions are complete. No proofs are included.
