The authors give a definition of a reductive group that is different from the usual one given for example by \textit{A. W. Knapp} [Lie groups beyond an introduction, Birkhäuser, Boston (1996; Zbl 0862.22006)]. This definition simplifies the proofs of stated results. Let \(G\subset \text{GL}( n,{\mathbb R}) \) be a real reductive group with Cartan decomposition \(g=k\oplus p\), where \(g\) is the Lie algebra of \(G.\) Let \(G^{{\mathbb C}}\) be the subgroup of \(\text{GL}( n,{\mathbb C}) \) with Lie algebra \(g\oplus ig\) and \(\widetilde{K}\) the subgroup of \ \(G^{{\mathbb C}}\) whose Lie algebra is \(k\oplus ip\). Let \(\Omega ^{{\mathbb C}}\) be a complex homogeneous space for \(G^{{\mathbb C}}\) and \(\varphi \) \( \;\)a \(\widetilde{K}\)-invariant strictly plurisubharmonic function on \(\Omega ^{{\mathbb C}}\). One of the results proved is that if \(\Omega \) is a \(G\) -orbit in \(\Omega ^{{\mathbb C}}\) and \(f=\varphi |\Omega \) has a critical point, then \(f\) is proper and achieves its minimum value on its critical set which is a single \(K\)-orbit, \(K\) being the subgroup of \(G\) whose Lie algebra is \(k\). Related results were given by \textit{D. Luna} [Am. J. Math. 97, 172-181 (1975; Zbl 0334.57022)] and by \textit{R. W. Richardson} and \textit{P. J. Slodowy} [J. Lond. Mat. Soc. (2) 42, 409-429 (1990; Zbl 0675.14020)].
