This article is devoted to the degree theory for mappings in reflexive Banach spaces of type \(F= L+ A+ S\), where \(L\) is a linear densely defined maximal monotone map, \(A\) a bounded maximal monotone operator, and \(S\) a bounded demicontinuous map of class \((S_+)\). The new degree is similar to the Skrypnik one, its main distinction from the latter is the unboundedness of \(L\). The degree takes integer values, all basic properties (additivity, invariance under admissible homotopies, nondegeneracy) hold; the existence principle for maps with nonzero degree is also true. Applications to the theory of parabolic variational inequality problems are considered.
