Let \(\varphi,\varphi^*\in L^2(R)\) and define the integer-translation operators on \(L^2(R)\) by \((\tau_kf)(x)=f(x-k)\), \(x\in R\), \(k\in Z\). The functions \(\{\tau_k\varphi\}\) are said to form a pseudo-frame for a closed subspace \(X\) of \(L^2(R)\) (w.r.t. \(\{\tau_k\varphi^*\}\)) if \(x= \sum \langle x,\tau_k\varphi^* \rangle\tau_k\varphi\) for all \(x\in X\). It is not assumed that \(\{\tau_k\varphi\}\subseteq X\), in contrast to ``normal'' frames. A generalized multiresolution structure (GMS) is now defined exactly like a frame multiresolution analysis, except that the existence of a pseudoframe (rather than a frame) for \(V_0\) is assumed. Based on a GMS satisfying extra conditions, functions \(\psi, \psi^*\) are constructed such that all \(f\in L^2(R)\) can be represented as \(f= \sum_{M,n\in Z} \langle f, \psi_{m,n}^*\rangle\psi_{m,n}\), where \(\psi_{m,n}(x)=2^{m/2}\psi(2^mx-n)\). For numerical purposes it is noted that the pyramid filter bank algorithm applies.
