    The authors prove a new minimax theorem involving weakly downward functions. More precisely, if \(X\) is a compact space and \(Y\) is an interval space and \(f: X \times Y \rightarrow \mathbb R\) satisfies the following conditions: 1) \(f(.,y)\) is upper semicontinuous on \(X\) for all \(y \in Y\) and \(f(x,.)\) is lower semicontinuous on all intervals in \(Y\), 2) \(\forall \;y_{1}, y_{2} \in Y\) and \(\forall \;y \in [y_{1},y_{2}]\) the relation \(f(x,y) \leq \max \{ f(x,y_{1}),f(x,y_{2}) \} \) holds \(\forall \;x \in X\), 3) \(f\) is weakly downward on \(X\), then \(\inf_{Y} \sup_{X}\) \(f(x,y) =\sup_{X} \inf_{Y} \;f(x,y)\).
