Grid bases of orthogonal compactly supported functions (Q5932969)

A procedure for constructing compactly supported, orthogonal grid functions is proposed. The procedure is similar to the construction of conventional B-splines of various degrees. Examples of functions of degree one and two are presented. These functions can be interpreted as generalizations of B-splines of degree one and two. The approximating properties of the constructed bases are analyzed on uniform grids with the use of the mathematical technique of the Strang-Fix approximation theory.
