The authors consider the Neumann problem \[ -\text{div}(|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u)=\lambda |u|^{p-2} u+h(x) \quad \text{ in} \;\Omega,\quad \partial u/\partial \nu =0\quad \text{ on} \partial \Omega, \] where \(1<p<\infty.\) It is shown that the antimaximum principle holds uniformly when \(p>N\) and that it holds non uniformly when \(1<p\leq N.\) It is also derived a variational characterization of the maximal interval of validity of the uniform antimaximum principle when \(p>N.\) The Dirichlet boundary-value problem is also briefly considered.
