Let \(X\) be a general quartic hypersurface in \({\mathbb{P}}^4({\mathbb{C}})\), so \(X\) is smooth and \(\text{Pic} X \approx {\mathbb{Z}}\). A locally complete intersection curve \(Y\) on \(X\) is called \(n\)-subcanonical if \(\omega_Y={\mathcal O}_Y(n)\) for some \(n\in {\mathbb{Z}}\). A rank two vector bundle \(E\) is said to have no intermediate cohomology if \(h^1(X,E(n))=0\) for all \(n \in {\mathbb{Z}}\). Using the Hartshorne-Serre correspondence between rank two vector bundles and locally complete intersection subcanonical curves on \(X\), the author constructs examples of non-splitting rank two vector bundles on \(X\) with no intermediate cohomology and completely classifies them as follows. Theorem: A non-splitting rank two vector bundle with no intermediate cohomology on \(X\) is a twist of one of the bundles listed below: 1. \(c_1(E)=-1\), \(c_2(E)=1\) and \(E\) is associated to a line, 2. \(c_1(E)=0\), \(c_2(E)=2\) and \(E\) is associated to a plane conic, 3. \(c_1(E)=1\), \(c_2(E) \in \{3,4,5\}\) and \(E\) is associated to a curve of arithmetic genus \(1\) and trivial dualising sheaf, 4. \(c_1(E)=2\), \(c_2(E)=8\) and \(E\) is associated to a canonical curve, 5. \(c_1(E)=3\), \(c_2(E)=14\) and \(E\) is associated to a smooth \(2\)-subcanonical curve. All these cases occur on a general \(X\).
