The main concern of this paper is to prove the existence of well-behaving sequences or, in the terminology of this paper, the existence of order or weight functions, using the theory of Gröbner bases. It is shown that the \(\mathbb{F}\)-algebra \(R\) has a basis consisting of a well-behaving sequence if and only if \(R\) has an order function. It is also proved that if \(R\) has an order function, then it is an integral domain. This paper should be of particular interest to researchers working in the area of geometric Goppa codes and algebraic geometry codes.
