Let \(G\) be a finite group and \(F_*\) be a \(G\)-free resolution of \(\mathbb{Z}\). Let \(d_G(M)\) denotes the minimum number of generators of the \(G\)-module \(M\). The rational integer \(d_G(\text{Im}(F_{m+1}\to F_m))-(\sum_{i=0}^m(-1)^{m-i}d_G(F_i))\) is an invariant of \(G\) for all \(m\geq 0\) except in some cases. In these exceptional cases it takes the value 0 or 1.
