A group \(G\) is said to be core-\(2\) if the core \(H_G\) of each subgroup \(H\) has index at most 2 in \(H\). Here \(H_G\) stands for the largest normal subgroup of \(G\) contained in \(H\), i.e. the intersection of all conjugates of \(H\). In the paper under review the authors show that a core-\(2\) nilpotent \(2\)-group of nilpotency class \(2\) has an Abelian subgroup of index at most \(4\). From this it follows that every \(2\)-group \(G\) which is core-\(2\) has an Abelian normal subgroup of index at most \(16\), and actually of index at most \(8\), if \(G\) has class larger than \(3\).
