The paper deals with parameter identification of a class of Hammerstein systems where the static nonlinearity is described by a continuous piecewise affine function. The identification scheme is based on a linear-in-the-parameters system representation derived from the orthogonal piecewise constant block-pulse expansion of the nonlinearity derivative. Parameter estimation is performed by using a modified recursive gradient algorithm with parameter projection. A specific persistently exciting input sequence is designed to ensure convergence of the parameter estimates. Theoretical issues are illustrated by a simulation example.
